Its All Beginning to Come Together...

I am very excited to see us moving right along! The process has taken a long time, and has been difficult at certain parts, but everything is starting to come together!

Over the next few months, you will see this site and the mission of our organization changing! On the site side, there will be some updates content-wise. In terms of the organization… well… see soon enough! All of us here are very excited about this, and we can’t wait to get the community involved in what is looking to be a spectacular resource for everyone.

strongly recommend that you subscribe to the “Team Chatter RSS” feed found at the top left of the page to get the latest information.

This is going to be a good, folks. Stay tuned!

Some Thoughts and Resources

TEDTalks (hd)

The band “OK Go” dreamed up the idea of a massive Rube Goldberg machine for their next music video — and Adam Sadowsky’s team was charged with building it. He tells the story of the effort and engineering behind their labyrinthine creation that quickly became a YouTube sensation.

MAKE Magazine
MAKE is a quarterly publication from O’Reilly for those who just can’t stop tinkering, disassembling, re-creating, and inventing cool new uses for the technology in our lives. It’s the first do-it-yourself magazine dedicated to the incorrigible and chronically incurable technology enthusiast in all of us. MAKE celebrates your right to tweak, hack, and bend technology any way you want.

Is literacy in danger because of technology? Will students stop reading and writing all together because they spend lots of time on the computer?

I have talked to some parents who legitimately worry about their children slipping away from the traditional ways of books, pen and paper. Afraid of change and yearning for a return to the “good old times,” some worry that technology they do not understand or use will destroy the children’s motivations to read and write. Not familiar with sites such as Facebook, Twitter, deviantART, YouTube and other blogs or forums, some parents cannot participate in the activities of their children, adding a fear of being disconnected from their children and leaving them with feelings of inadequacy.

Along the same lines, science fiction shows such as Syfy’s upcoming Caprica, will display a world where technology is run amok, used by a lazier younger generation. Yet it’s doing the exact opposite in our world: it’s sparking a definite, driven creativity that’s enabled by technology, rather than hampered or perverted by it.

A light at the end of a long tunnel...

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the FIRST kickoff again for another year.  I met a lot of great people, and it looks like we might actually get some ground on getting IDEAS off the ground.  I will try and keep you updated as we go along, but I got a lot of verbal promises from a lot of people in FIRST.  I will keep you all up to date as things get more official.

All the Best,

Something's Happening Here...

Exciting things are stirring in the folds of IDEAS people.  This week we will submit the first of what will be many applications for grant money to move IDEAS from a dream into reality.  If all goes well, next week there will be an application sitting on a desk to be reviewed to grant us our first grant.  Only one of many.  I know some of you who were following thought we were shooting for Boston.  Well, turns out Brooklyn is easier right now.  That doesn’t mean that Boston will not happen.  It will, in due time.  In the mean time, do we have plans!  Here’s the low down:

  • A new building in the heart of an old town.
  • Ground breaking technology creating a self sustaining living environment.
  • New living space in Brooklyn.
  • A workshop for all young and old.
  • and a place where smart people can come and solve the world’s problems.

I’ll keep ya’ll updated with news as we go forward.  I’ll tell you one thing though:  Things are getting more exciting every day!

Best Regards,

David B Mittelman
